I agree with Mark on this as a fellow ADHDer. Loud sounds, especially sudden ones, hit just the wrong nerve to make me overstimulated and irritated far faster than a lot of other stuff.

The worst sound is more than one sound. Especially two customers asking me questions at the same time at work.

Something i learned about airpods is that their noise cancellation can just…go bad. I ended up getting a new pair as a Christmas gift while i still had the old pair. I kept them as spares for a while for if the new ones died. The thing i noticed IMMEDIATELY was that the noise canceling of the old pair hurt to have on. To the point of migraines. Then the new ones were blissfully silent. Upon closure observation, the old ones were making noise that was juuust within my range of hearing.

While I totally understand what they mean by the whole noise cancellation feeling like pressure in your ears thing, it’s also entirely possible to have earbuds that have messed up noise cancellation which fucks with your ears in terrible ways

I can also feel the noise cancelling waves, it's a weird pressure in my ears that took actual months to get used to.

I agree with Mark so much, I get migraines from being exposed to loud sounds and even movies in the movie theater get me, so I tend to keep the volume on my headphones as low as possible to minimize the risk

I feel so seen..AuDHD I have been noise sensitive my whole life.. Getting nice headphones that block sound with the ear cup was so life changing.. I also turn my sound down a lot.. I play with friends and some times I just take my headphones off because its just too overwhelming..

What Mark is describing has to do with SPL (Sound Pressure Levels). If you imagine sound is a wave on a 2D plane, noise cancellation is putting a wave that is equal in amplitude but opposite (called phase cancellation or reversing phase). While noise cancellation takes our perception of the noise away, the SPL or the actual pressure those waves exert on our eardrums is still there, we just don’t perceive it as noise. Some people are more sensitive to this than others, just like some people are more sensitive to loud noise than others. Personally I don’t like noise cancellation, and prefer earbuds that physically block outside noise rather than cancel it

Stadiums are awful with the loud but at the same time I enjoy that feeling of excitement. You know the quiet that’s loud that you can hear the verberations or you can hear your own heartbeat

I don't wanna sound like an ad lol but loop earplugs are fantastic for this kinda thing, me and a friend of mine have them. I got mine for travel (entire family/friend group snores lol) but she got hers for sensory issues as an elementary school teacher, and for concerts! It's a product that pays for youtube ads but it is one that actually works

I feel the same way. I literally hate feeling the bass of music in my chest and stuff. And loud noises just bother the heck out of me.
