Michael Caine is an awesome actor - a true legend. From Zulu to playing Alfred the butler in Batman.

Zulu is part of a classic British era of war films starting in the late 40s/early 50s and finishing late '60s. Such a classic film and I can't hear Men of Harlech without thinking of this film. Should add it is based on a true event in the Anglo-Zulu wars...it also displays the Zulus as a proud people with dignity. You'll love it.

Don't forget. Give Zulu Dawn a watch too! Although it was made afterwards, it is actually set directly before the Zulu film, and the events of that lead into Zulu.

Bear in mind there is an old Zulu warrior at the end of the movie who was a boy when the actual battle occured.

Brilliant film, based on true story, they changed some of the personalities of characters. Hook was tee total, Sgt Bourne was younger and they missed out a parson from Norwich, who handed out ammunition.

Zulu was Michael Caine’s breakthrough role, and it was a movie that almost saw him sacked. When reels of raw footage were sent from Africa to London during filming, producers were unimpressed by his wooden performance and instructed that he be ditched and replaced. I’m not sure how he managed to stay cast in the role, but this snippet of information features in Caine’s biography.
