I think it's super cool when something looks old but operates like it's new. Leave it as is.

Full resto, go with the right side red!

It’s amazing to restore items to their original glory. Patina is alright, but that original beauty is a sight to behold!

All or nothing, a fresh tank won't look good with the weathered stove.

You can do whatever you want. I’ve been collecting and restoring Coleman gear for a long time and stoves are something I find in dumpsters, curbside, yard sales for two dollars; you can’t mess one up. There’s plenty to go around.

DO A FEW CLEAR-COATS TO PROTECT... DON'T RESTORE WITH PIGMENT...
THEY DO THIS TO ANTIQUE CARS & TRUCKS... AT AUCTION SELLS EXTREMELY WELL ..

I suggest covering the spots you sanded on the stove body with some clear coat or that rust will come back.
(I'd leave it unrestored. You cleaned it good and it works.)

As is. It shows the age, it’s character. Remember, it’s a tool, not a Show piece. Do you paint all your other old vintage tools? No, of course not. Patina shows that’s it’s reliable, authentic.

I’m with the all or nothing crowd. I’ve seen your work and you would do it justice! Go for it. Can’t wait ❤

Leave it! It’s original and has so much character. A fresh coat of paint would ruin it.

I restored one of them my brother-in-law. It was given to him a long time ago. And I just found some kind of a paint that was similar in color. Took it all apart, sending everything now. Try fixing the rust holes. It made it to where it was usable again...

Clear coat it! Dont paint it, it kills the feeling and vibe of those amazing things

If you are going to paint it might as well buy a new one. Leave it rustic shows all the love it has been given.

I’d vote fully paint all of it. Or just go with a clear coat to protect. They are awesome either way. I’m sure if it lasted 60+ years without paint, it’ll work well for a few more decades. I’ll be watching regardless

I think you should do both, paint the tank the ROYAL RED, but leave the green alone and polish any brass you can see.

I'd probably leave as is — potentially clear coating w/ matte or satin finish (as others have said). If you must paint to satisfy the itch, I like the Regal Red (long-term).

I R & R'd one for a friend of mine ( garage sale find by them), they wanted it repainted as well. I hesitated, and mentioned it would be better to leave it as is, but "New" parts and goodies.......
Needless to say, his wife non-camping "won" his argument ( they didn't go camping, Ever...🙄)
AND I repainted the entire Coleman.

After sitting "new" looking in his shed for about four years, I bought it back for $5.00 off his wife and gave it to my brother for one of his friends.
His friend was like " What the hell?".. and my brother said "Just let it go Man, let it go".
Ol' Jimmy is still using the 425 30 off years later.

DO NOT repaint that tank! Please 🙏!
Clean and scrub....clear coat.

I R & R'd one of the "square boxy" ones from the late '40's. They had a "copper" colored tank paint that is unmatchable and I left it alone and just gently scrubbed the stove clean, and I did wire brush the rusty grill as much as I could. It was very cool looking and it worked great 👍.

Nothing like a Colem

Leave it weathered, but rebuild the functional parts!

Apple red looks closer to what the original color would have been without fading and grime. But a solid clear coat to protect the patina is never a bad idea.

Some things are better left alone. If it is not broken, don’t fix it.
