for those who don't understand
this video is teaching you about the 6.7 powerstroke
The 6.7 Power Stroke is a 6.7-liter V8 turbocharged diesel engine developed by Ford Motor Company. Let’s delve into its features and specifications:
Origins and Development:
In 2008, Ford began designing a new diesel engine in-house for their Super Duty trucks.
Codenamed the Scorpion, this engine was officially introduced in 2011 as the 6.7 Power Stroke.
Notably, it replaced the 6.4L Power Stroke and marked the end of Ford’s nearly 30-year partnership with International Navistar.
Materials and Weight Savings:
The 6.7L Power Stroke features a compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder block, providing significant weight savings over its predecessor.
Its deep-skirt block uses nodular iron six-bolt main caps (similar to the 7.3L Power Stroke) instead of the 6.4L’s bed plate.
The cylinder heads are made of cast aluminum, a first for the truck segment.
Turbocharging and Airflow:
The engine employs a reverse-flow design where exhaust gases exit into the engine valley (where the turbocharger is located).
Fresh, boosted air enters the outside of the cylinder heads.
This design reduces exhaust volume, resulting in a more dynamically responsive Garrett GT32 DualBoost variable geometry single sequential turbocharger (SST).
Cooling Systems:
The 6.7L Power Stroke has a water-to-air intercooler connected to a secondary cooling system.
This secondary system cools the EGR circuit, transmission fluid, and fuel cooler.
Separate water pumps, thermostats, degas bottle, and radiators serve the primary and powertrain cooling systems.
Fuel Injection and Performance:
It uses a high-pressure common rail direct injection system with a Bosch CP4.2 fuel pump.
The 19 mm Piezo-actuated Bosch injectors have 8-hole nozzles and can execute five events per combustion cycle.
In 2015, the GT32 SST turbocharger was replaced by the Garrett GT37 with single variable geometry (VGT).
Quiet Operation:
Despite its power, the 6.7L Power Stroke is significantly quieter than previous Ford diesel engines1234.
For Ford Super Duty owners, this engine offers a blend of durability, performance, and modern technology. Whether hauling heavy loads or cruising on the highway, the 6.7 Power Stroke delivers reliable power and efficiency5.
