The South Bay Mall has a police substation for good reason. There are two rehabs within 3/4 of a mile, the methadone mile is not far, and since they closed and demolished the bridge to the Long Island shelter, the nearby shelters are overflowing.
The addicts who get released from rehab make a beeline for the McD’s and then right to the South Bay parking lot to buy drugs.
I’ve encountered a woman using her 10-yo (who should have been in school) to beg saying he needs $ for an operation, but she’s taking him around that lot year round.
We had 3 people OD on the toilets with the needle still in their arm.
There are stabbings and shootings almost weekly.
