The primary problem that is very real is the fact that his wife's family owned slaves at that time, and he had slaves at the site of his residence. So this takes a lot the comment what makes it no less important in a sense that he was kind of trapped into a situation that he disagreed with. In fact many of the founding fathers did own slaves including Benjamin Franklin. While some people may think that this somehow makes the Constitution illegitimate that is flatly wrong. And that is the true issue... Was the Constitution somehow made "Illegitimate" by these facts? And the simple answer is NO! If all of the founding fathers had prostitutes would this somehow make the Constitution illegitimate? The absurd part of this Pseudo-analysis is the FACT that the "individual activities" of any of the founding fathers [Be they satan worshippers or murderers] provides absolutely NO relevant OR logical basis to THROW AWAY the Constitution! That is the fallacy of their argument that needs to be addressed... So what if some of them owned the slaves? Another way to look at it is to request what that are alternative do you offer??? Marxism?...Oh Right...There's a lot of FREEDOMS in that ball game!
