The thing about sonic having a home is that it has been implied/shown in the past.
In terms of stuff like the shows for example.
That he has had places that he actually lives.
(Yes I know the shows aren’t canon but I’m making a point)
But it also has been shown that he just kind of sleeps/lives wherever is convenient.
So he basically is a drifter but just because he doesn’t always sleep in the same place.
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have an actual place he calls home.
For example if you went to a hotel or slept at a friend’s house.
That doesn’t mean you no longer live at your current residence.

I was always of the assumption that Sonic's de-facto home was Tail's House/Workshop whenever he wasn't away on adventures. Tails takes him anywhere he can't reach on-foot, and since Tails is ALWAYS adventuring with him from Sonic 2 (unless circumstance seperates them), it stands to reason he's never far from Tails when the call to action arrives.

Tbh, I'd be fine with Sonic having Green Hill as his "home". He doesn't necessarily have to live there, but with it being a place he frequently visits, he probably just feels more comfortable there. He'll still sleep where ever he wants too, but if he's not 100% sure, Green Hill is his go to.
