Welcome to this âshortâ of our video about the Rainbow Valley.
We invite you to review the video, as you will find reviews, information, prices and suggestions to travel to El Valle del ArcoĂris (Rainbow Valley), from San Pedro de Atacama.
Today we take you to a truly magical place in northern Chile: the Rainbow Valley.
This amazing valley, hidden in the heart of the Atacama Desert, will amaze you with its vibrant colors and surreal landscapes.
Just 56 miles from the town of San Pedro de Atacama, in the vicinity of the Salado River basin, is this area where the planet Earth exposes its palette of colors and reveals its geological history.
We recommend this activity as a must-do during a stay in the area.
If you enjoy hiking, natural landscapes and photography, this destination offers multiple opportunities to express your creativity.
The rock formations in this area originated millions of years ago from volcanic and sedimentary processes, and erosion has sculpted diverse and impressive shapes over time. The combined action of plate tectonics and erosion has exposed these layers of minerals, creating a truly natural spectacle of colors.
The diversity of colors present in the Rainbow Valley is due to the presence of several minerals in the sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the region. The red and pink tones are due to the presence of iron oxides. Greens are the product of copper compounds, while whites and yellows are indicative of salts and other minerals such as gypsum and calcite. The violet and lilac tones may be associated with manganese.
On our tour, we go deep into the Rio Salado basin, visit two different sectors of the valley and walk along trails that lead to attractive mineral formations.
Throughout the video, we provide information and travel tips to make your visit a memorable experience.
