I personally find relief and joy in writing.
There was a time I was taking an art class, in this art class there was two eleven year olds that were very smart young ones. On time I was painting and one of them said out of nowhere, "you seem really happy when you paint." I get emotional just thinking that moment.

I cured my depression and anxiety by building a pizza oven with very little money.
I then went on to make pizza from scratch that are better than the best u can get on the high street.
I also roast a chicken that is nothing like the best of the best restaurants. Unless you go to rural Eastern European where they still cook in wood fired ovens.
I am not bragging. I have taken the cheapest chicken and done one in the electric oven and the other in 40 minutes in the pizza oven.
So now instead of getting depressed I dream of new creations for the oven.

The past few years have been a wild ride with my depression and creativity. I’ve always been someone who has wanted to create, whether it be music, drawings, videos, etc. but when I’m in a depressive episode, it’s like that feeling and need to create just evaporates, and it can be weeks/months at a time. HOWEVER, when I come out of these episodes, I almost feel manic with a constant flow of ideas and creativity that surges through me. During these times I really hone in and improve my skills and it’s the only thing I feel like doing. That also lasts for weeks/months at a time until I seem to fizzle back to normality. It’s bittersweet, I think a lot of these creative surges stem from the depression, and I’m not sure if I prefer this or would rather just have a consistent baseline of creativity and mental health where the depression isn’t as bad but the creativity isn’t as strong (during the episodes)

“You are not the pain you feel, nor are you the part that periodically stresses out. None of these
disturbances have anything to do with you. You are the one who notices these things. Because your consciousness is separate and aware of these things, you can free yourself. To free yourself of your inner thorns, you simply stop playing with them.”
― Michael A. Singer, The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself
