Looks like the chopper pilot had sufficient clearance to cut the distance in half for a fast rope descent. At that height thats a lot of friction heat in the gloves at the halfway point,

If you look at the helicopter it looks like he gains altitude after they start their decent, so if they needed say 80 feet of rope now the need 100 feet of rope so they are going to fall off after they reach the end, which can be hard to see in time when you are looking at a straight line dangeling below you, because of that I think it is pilot error.
