Weeellll.... Are the fast fashion companies perpetuating "clothing povery," or are they benefitting from/exploiting our lack of education -both in families and in schools- on how to manage money, emotions around self-image, and impulse? We cannot control these companies quickly and or easily enough to change them, but we can get ourselves more financially intelligent. I appreciate the gal you mentioned who decided to audit her purchases. I did that, too, and realized the beautiful leather jacket I passed up because it was so expensive could have been bought 3 times over with the money I spent on cheap clothing that didn't last. Educate yourselves ladies and take action!

Not mentioned: the people who are on their last $20 and need a new shirt TODAY, so that they can get a job and maybe have another $20 to replace the shirt before it gets so shoddy it costs them their job. Slow fashion is an investment, and like any investment it requires starting capital

There is still a large population of people who shop for clothes knowing very well they will have a different criteria for their clothes the next time around. For example, people ditching their legging for flared yoga pants. Styles are constantly changing and there are people that are following the new fad so they don’t really count on needing to have that piece of clothing for a long time. Don’t get me wrong I still think these companies are doing damage for many other reasons but in this case I just think they’re aware that there is a consumer that wants something specific and they want it now and next week they will be over it and want something completely different.
