South Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Departmentâs South Traffic Division detectives are investigating a fatal hit and run traffic collision that occurred at Alondra Blvd and Orchard Avenue.
On Sunday, August 4, 2019, around 9:50 p.m., a fatal hit and run traffic collision occurred on Alondra Boulevard at Orchard Avenue. A dark (possible gray) BMW 5-Series was traveling eastbound Alondra Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it passed a vehicle on the right at Orchard Avenue. As the BMW was passing on the right, it struck and killed 45-year-old Veronica Hernandez, who was collecting recyclables from a recycling container. The driver of the BMW continued eastbound Alondra Boulevard at a high rate of speed, failing to stop, render aid and identify him/herself as required by law.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported Hernandez to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should stop, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offenderâs identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
