As a pilot, there are a few flaws regarding the information in this video. At my airline, we don't always do a static takeoff out of SNA (John Wayne/Orange County Airport), we don't pitch up to 20 degrees unless directed by the Flight Director, and we don't reduce the throttles at 1,500ft. We announce "approaching cutback" at 600ft AGL and then at 800ft AGL, we pull the throttles back to a predetermined setting that the FMC puts out based on conditions, weight and etc. Also, we don't level off after throttle reduction , we just climb at the given vertical speed for our target airspeed until we reach 3,000 AGL at which point we can push the throttles up to intended climb power. I would imagine that every airline has different procedures while taking off out of SNA.

"Oh no, I built my house next to an airport, why is it so loud!?"

I grew up using john wayne as my main travel hub and always wondered why the other airports took off so slowly 😭

Imagine buying a house next to an airport and then being like "plane too loud 😢. Make them stop

The same people that complain about the airport noise are the same ones that DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE TO LAX for a flight!😂

Considering I do this departure every week. 1 they never set the parking brake on the runway. Most of the time they just hold the brakes a bit or they do a turn and burn often seen on Southwest. 2nd it’s just a slightly higher departure pitch and a slight throttle back past 1500 - 2000 feet. Then once over the coast it’s back to full climb thrust.

I have flown out of John Wayne dozens of times and it’s not at all nerve wracking

They're not the only airport doing that. And what gets worse is when they hook a hard left before finishing the climb.

My only comment is it’s so frustrating hearing about people who move near a Airport then complain about the Noise…Those same people would probably complain had they moved near a cemetery about it being too quiet 🤫

The scariest US take-off from the front office is Aspen. High altitude, often hot, max thrust, rotate, as soon as you're gear up go 15deg right, and then go back to the right CROSSING LANDING TRAFFIC...

Of course, getting in there in the first place is its own can of worms.

This kind of take off is normal around the world. When you toke off from Manchester ( one of my local airports, Liverpool is the other) you get to a certain hight and throttle back so you don’t annoy the nimby’s of Mobberley.

When it was done in a B747 it was like going over a humpback bridge.

I live not too far from it and the take-off seems normal to me. Heck, a $89 round trip ticket to/from there is better entertainment than what you get on a disneyland ride! For Clarification, the airport is surrounded on three sides by office and industrial parks. The residential is under take-off route is Newport Bay which has always been residential property since the airport was an Army Air Corp facility back in the 1940s (smaller prop planes).

I find this crazy because the airport was built when the area was pretty much countryside. Then the people moved in complaining about something that was already there.

The same thing happened to El Toro MCAS

Thats a ICAO NADP procedure used at a lot of airports around the world. Nothing special. 20* nose us pitch is aircraft type specific. You never set the parking breaks while in an active runway, instead u just hold the brakes……

We used to call it a C type take off. Often used on a shorter runway or heavy aircraft etc. as a pilot it's quite fun.

I mean that’s kind of a half-assed version of a C-17 combat departure. I suppose that would be mildly unsettling to an average traveler.

As a kid, we lived where the Concorde flew over, and other airplanes not too far from airport. Our family loved hearing the planes. We still like hearing planes and train horn.

You set the parking brake and go full power you’re going to get get a lot of alarms. Pitch is based on weight, temp, etc. We do a NADP1 takeoff which is V2 speed to 1500’, thrust reduction, then speed up at 3000’. Same procedure is flown at San Diego, Palm Beach, Boise.

Oh wow. I didn’t realize that some of these weird takeoffs could be due to noise abatement requirements. Thanks! Next time I won’t freak out.
