📍 King’s Street Coffee, 121 W 30th St, New York, NY 10001

A few weeks ago King's Street reached out to ask if I could help redesign their logo and I was stoked to say yes after dreaming about rebranding a coffee shop for years now! Here’s a little peek into the beginning of that process, hope you enjoy 🤍😃 (and stay for part

Please understand that the logo process looks a little different here than what I would usually present to a client as this is a close friend’s family business, so we’re going a little crazy with the options 😄 (We also speak different languages so I’m learning how to approach this project as we go!

personally i think simple logos definitely belong to bigger brands , local shops and small businesses definitely are more suited for creative and more fun designs

In graphic design majoring, you are ALWAYS taught that with logos less is more but it ALWAYS depends on what the business wants.

There has been such a shift toward minimalist logos over the past decade or more. While, admittedly, they can be easier to use in a variety of marketing channels, simple and polished logos do not accurately brand every business. I can see where an unpolished or maximalist logo may stand out and be the best option for this project. So cool to see the design process, thanks for sharing!

Their existing logo is FIRE though. Crown of steam rising from a coffee? I mean thats TUFF to beat

i feel like using his aesthetic and his already clever logo, then combining it with your style could make something really cute.

I love your take on logo designs! At the same time I agree with the owner - your doodles express so many emotions 🤍So I think the best way to approach this is to treat it as an exception from a standard logo designing process. Can’t wait to see the final one!

I feel like less is more is a thing artists and graphic designers always fixate on, while the vast majority of us normies LOVE an ornate, or hyper emotive logo. Especially for the small businesses that dont have to build brand identities over dozens of markets and languages

I love their current logo. Maybe mix that steam crown with one of your fun coffee cups that have faces. Maybe even a whole family of cups with different steam crowns going to King street coffie.

He already has a very nice logo. The first thing I would have asked is what he didn't like about it and where he sees room for improvement to help establish a direction rather than trying to second guess what he wants.

Do both extremes when showing drafts! It's a great, easy way to show your range and also leads to a final product after the initial showing.

it all comes down to brand maturity. Its on you to descide and to do research on if you have to simplify or go with "more"

I can attest that more is more! My mother and I decorate Christmas trees as a side job and they hire us because we’re very extravagant. It’s too much for my personal taste but it’s always gorgeous to show them off.

That should have been part of the initial design discussion with the owner/client. He did, in fact, give you a hint when he told you he liked what he saw in your doodles.
Just looking at the digital page of designs you scrolled through, it was pretty easy to see that none of them had the complexity or level of "whimsy" that your more complex pieces did.
Learning experience.
