I love the way they tell Rose's story backwards essentially. She wanted to change things, but she was still raised as a selfish diamond, and she could never escape that, making mistake after mistake. We often see characters redeem themselves, but woth Rose, they started at the end and worked back to the beginning.

I think it hits harder when you realize this is one of the first times Steven is told heâs good enough, even better, as not his mom. A lot of the show is him growing out of his motherâs shadow and this is one of the first real times a gem that met his mother tells him that heâs better than her. Tells him that itâs wonderful heâs not like her.

Those moments after steven says hell tell them speaks volumes.
Shock, relief that they will know, and ultimately the realisation that it is different. HE is different. That she had a chance to accept that, to be able to spend time with him and the gems enjoying what there is of the life they have now but she blew it.
