Generation X here. Why punish the punish the mother? The kid should had stayed in the house and waited for them to get back. He didn't take a gun to school or anything. OMG!!!! Just a bit to much to have all hooplah.

Gen X here. The problem with society now is the expectation for helicopter parenting where a parent must always be present and know what the kid is doing and where the kids are. So what, the kid walked a mile from home. My brother and I walked further than that and in a city to go to the arcade, record store or comic book store. This is over reach by far. What good does it do the children to take their mother away from them for a year if they prosecute her? Kids in other countries are doing much harder things at younger ages without a parent present and doing much better physically and mentally than our coddled children in the US (in much more dangerous environments). This is an example of over reach and I hope she wins her case.

Millennial here, when I was a kid parents could trust their children to play outside and roam neighborhoods and walk wherever they wanted. These days itās a crime to let kids be kids or let them play outside.
