It's probably the only time where it was better not to see him get his way. Those cars didn't fit the characters, and the muscle cars were a good contrast to the Mitsubishi hero cars. Way cooler too

Like I get that they didn't want econo boxes. But you do realize that the opening scene of this entire movie series is econo boxes. The whole concept is the econo box racing scene. I mean that's you know when the movies were about racing
