It used to be that you could only get the exact items approved by the customer. No bigger, no smaller, no other flavor or brand. The dasher card wouldn't run in the machine if they asked for 9.7oz and you grabbed a 9.2oz. But, too many customers complained that the dasher couldn't grab extra items or substitutions they didn't pick on the app. So now dashers can just grab whatever and the dasher card will let the transaction happen.

This is wild to see as a dasher. I usually get what they select as a sub, contact them to see what they would prefer while telling them the available options, or if I can’t get ahold of them just putting unavailable.

I only shop for instacart and Uber Eats so I can’t speak for DoorDash, but I myself go to GREAT lengths to make sure the substitutions are okay. My god I have social anxiety and I’m a perfectionist. My brain couldn’t allow this 😂

As a dasher.... You can't just get whatever.... If your dasher substitutes ANYTHING you should get a notification. I know this cause some poor lady ordered EVERYTHING dollar general was out of and she got like 12 notifications for substitutions and suggestions for substitutions. She was so sweet tho. Like bless that lady cause both our phones wouldn't stop😅 she gave me 5 stars th

As a doordasher doordash asks the customer to pick 3 substitutions items if their’s is out of stock, if they dont pick any then its random but usually in the same category. But doordash wont let us get anything that the doordash app isnt saying to get/replace. It yells at us if we get the wrong size of something.(saw another comment this might have changed but not through fault of the dashers lmao)
