Metalhead here with hair down to my ass. I use natural shampoo occasionally or after getting super dirty. Maybe once a month, i wrap it up if I'm cooking or doing yardwork. Middle aged ladies are always complementing my hair, 5 years without a trim and i barely have any split ends.

Don't shampoo your head everyday but every 3 to 4 days. If you do it everyday, your hair won't have any time to produce any oil and if you'll do it once a week/month and so on, your hair will be overloaded with oil, it will feel bad (and smell bad too because water doesn't get rid off the smell).

You should try a touch of avacado oil and tea tree oil, for a few years I've barely shampooed. Once every two weeks, the other days I soak in water with the effort mentioned oils, and it's never been healthier. Like you said it styles itself. The oils will thicken it and give it a little sheen

I didnt use shampoo for like my whole life and i still had dandruff and my hair wasnt healthy so maybe just listen to people who know how to take care of hair, use oils, find your wash frequency, shampoo and CONDITION and trim when you need to, thats what worked for me

@asaruff try a very little bit of shampoo and then your normal conditioner routine. Rinse all of it out, don’t miss any, and then when it is almost dry add a little bit of argon or rosemary oil.

Nope, I'll use shampoo and conditioner, it becomes really greasy and unpleasant to touch dirty hair, plus it clumps up too much if I don't. Only if the apocalypse came I wont use shampoo & conditioner or on a very long backpacking trip.

Once your head gets used to it all of the pros are gone, then it's just dry and it's either try Orange oil leave because you don't have to start putting oil on it, so you can see that dry hair or oil hair. It's gonna start sticking together. It's gonna be hard to keep it apart. You're gonna have to start using hot water to get the extra oil off of it's gonna make it hard even drier. And it turns out the only solution to take all the old dirty stuff off and to put new stuff on

some people have their head smells like hair when they do not wash it.
For some other people it smells like dead fish living on their head. Even if its just for a day.
So its not for everyone
