The essence of understanding logarithms lies in recognizing them as exponents in disguise. Here, we're essentially asking, "What power of 4 gives us a certain number?" The answer, in our case, is 4², which simplifies to 16.

Transforming this logarithmic expression into its exponential form, we get 16 = 3x + 1. It's now a linear equation, a straightforward path leading us to find the value of x.

I'm curious how you go about teaching the change of base formula. I've got my way of teaching it that most of my students haven't seen from their full-time teachers (I'm a private tutor). I'm curious if you do something similar.

when getting to log rules and exponent rules i like to explain logarithms as a way of converting multiplication into addition and exponentials as a way of converting addition into multiplication, young college students tend to be mystified by that in a good way

I 100% never learned about this in school, they never made me go beyond pre-algebra 😅

"Logarithms are exponents" was such an absolutely mind blowing things to my kids when teaching. Idk why we separate addition/subtraction and multiplication/division like this as well. I feel like it's unnecessarily confusing to pretend theyre separate.

logarithms are a cheat code for multiplication . Use it again for exoonentiation . Use a slide or printed table to get the log or antilog as needed .

My math teachers never explained what logarithms were, just told us how to punch it into the calculator. Who would’ve thought a YouTube short would teach me what my actual teachers failed to

Dear Sir, Why were you NOT my mathematics teacher during grades six through twelve?!? At the age of twenty I embarked on a mission to more thoroughly learn algebra from square one…..I’d have been far better off, and would have saved a great deal of time had I studied with you the FIRST time through this damned death marathon!!!

Logarithms stumped me so bad. If it wasn't for the calculator I'd never have passed 😂 now I'm like... man Logarithms are super useful 😂

I'm still in high school but finished all my math courses last year. I dont know sin, cosin, log, or anything. It was never even brought up by my math teacher. Gotta love the education system

It's crazy nobody taught us logarithms throughout 1-10 grade here in india. The first time i heard any teacher mention what logarithm is, was while we were in 12th grade learning integrals despite it being in so many equations in other subjects like chemistry. Because of this, most of us students had a pale idea of what a logarithm is

We can’t use calculators where I’m from. We had to show the steps writing everything down.

good job explaining

only this could be a bad example because 2^4 happens to equal 4^2

Logarithms is not an easy topic in high school. Similar comment is valid for Euler's number 'e'. The students never fully understand such topics until they study calculus.
