It’s literally a case of “my big brother protects me” but in this case they are humble and grateful for everything they have.

As a Taiwanese we’re not that scared since they can only talk the talk but they can’t walk the walk

Fun fact: ROC (Taiwan) government was the official representative of China in the UNO (it was a founding member) until the '70s.

It's always just so crazy to me that the world is in constant strife. Never fails to amaze me.

The issue there may be that other countries seem to recognize Taiwan through conduct, such as by accepting people with Taiwanese passports, allowing the exchange of Taiwanese currency, and having Taiwanese embassies in their countries and vice versa. They’re not called “embassies” on paper, but the functions they perform are identical to those that embassies perform.

in taiwan everyone's really chill and status quo is extremely normal, since this issue has been going on since our parent's generation

First a small country only has so much money. Second they have allies that will help defend them such as the U.S, South Korea and Japan and maybe a few others.

So many don't know how the real world works, outside their little town or city and actually know how important Taiwan is to the rest of the world. 🌎

They make themselves valuable with there semiconductors they make 60% and almost 100% of the high-powered ones so that would make countrys reliant of them consider defending them more

One thing though, Taiwan's spending is higher than on paper. A lot of military procurements are approved separate to the military budget.

It's sad that they have to deal with the threat of being invaded. These folks are minding their business. They're not looking for an unnecessary fight.. Leave them alone!

NATO’s requirement for military is 2% of gdp - Taiwan is on par with that. 😮

"why is taiwans defense so low?"

the US who has turned the island into what is functionally just a massive military base: "huh, guess we'll never know"

Taiwan is a mountainous island that has been fortified for decades.

There's also only 3 suitable naval landing spots so they can hyper focus on them and then have their navy be larger relative to its size

Even if China declared war on Taiwan, It would be very difficult to take the Island over. Taiwan has very rough Terrain. Around 70% of the Islands Land is covered in Mountains, meaning that Tanks are almost unusable.
To Land on Taiwan is also not that easy as every vehicle, every soldier, every artillery,... have to be transported on Ships, which can get destroyed by the Taiwanese Navy, Artillery, Airforce. The ROC Military in Total has around 3.1 million personnel, I don't think that would be easy to take over.
The best chance for China is Bombardments and missiles if they get the chance.
I hope a War could be prevented, between the PRC and ROC.
