🙋♀️ Here's the deal: Most piano players unknowingly skip steps when they’re trying to sight read.
😶🌫️ Result? Your brain is muddled, and your hands don't get the memo about what they’re supposed to do.
🤦♀️ Wrong notes and awkward pauses follow – not the vibe you're after.
✅ In order to sight read with accuracy and expression, you have to know what’s happening and how to improve upon it.
Here’s what goes down when you’re sight reading:
1️⃣ Your eyes kick things off, reading the notes on the sheet music – Visual Input. Simple, right?
2️⃣ Now, we're not gonna geek out, but recognizing musical patterns is where the real power kicks in. The more you know, the smoother it gets.
3️⃣ Next up, Motor Planning – figuring out how your hands and body move to make the music happen.
4️⃣ Finally, it's showtime, executing those moves and playing.

yeah i am self taught and i built technique through synthesia type videos. and i would usually learn difficult/technical stuff like liszt. so a few months ago i learned how to read sheet music (i knew most of the dynamics and articulations). i can learn things from the scores but it takes a while to process the notes and i have trouble applying dynamics, articulation, etc. do you have any tips on sightreading or just tips in general to get better at reading?
