Last month I did an oil pan gasket for someone I know on E90 N54 and I found a rock about the size of a pea in the bottom of the pan. Car ran perfect before and after aside from the leaks. Had me dumbfounded because it looked like it had been there a while and I still don’t get how a rock that size would make it down in the engine in the first place 😅

Is it a 2010-2011 N52 engine? The VANOS camshaft bolts back out and get shredded, usually end up in the oil pan.

Those are from the camshaft sprocket the bolt heads tend to sheer off and cause miss fires and vanos codes

Would this cause a rattle when the car is running?
