The best speaking advice someone gave me is “the nerves mean you care.” Take the feeling as a sign you are doing something you love enough to want to do well!

Just know this: People there WANT you to succeed. Remember this whenever you are in front of a crowd.

I don't wish you any discomfort AT ALL but somehow it's kind of reassuring and liberating that even you suffer from nerves and such... You're such a power house & academic inspiration to me!! So a heartfelt thank you for always being open and vulnerable, Ruby! ❤

don't worry about it! My first conference paper went terrible but once you give them semi-regularly you really get used to it and become much more confident :)

Well done! Hate public speaking and always got anxious about it. But the anxiety helps drive performance, got to see it as a positive thing.

Im sure it went pretty well! If theres substance in what you say it always shines through how ever "bad" the presentation. Todays world is all about presentation - visual mainly - but in many areas of life other things are primary. Many people these days only have the covers but lack the content! Good thing you have both 💜🌦

❤ I agree with you about public speaking, especially when you feel like many in the room are more knowledgeable than you are. At some point you start to realize the feeling that you are least knowledgeable subsides and you will be a bit more comfortable. Better with experience. My first talk was in medical school and I did my talk, referencing the scientists whose papers I cited. And to my surprise they were there…and asked questions 😮😂. I was so taken by surprise because they were from France and the conference was in Miami, Florida. I promise it gets easier with time. Most of the talks you will give will be to a group that knows less than you do about the topic.
I still don’t like it though and I’m better at it than I was.
