I disagree. Technology doesn't change human nature, only augments it. Human society has always contained an authentic and "public image" layer. Social media has allowed us all to behave like royal court aristocrats

I disagree. Identity and simulation have been entwined for much longer than profile-based interaction existed. Sending a portrait to a potential betrothed? Same idea, different font. Hyperreality might intensify the simulacra, but outward and inward understanding is too binary for such complicated systems. And happiness isn't something most people answer with a yes/no, either. Social media isn't killing our sense of identity through creation, just amplifying the power we have to represent ourselves to other people online

If we choose to do it, then why would we be miserable. I would suggest we are resorting to using the spectacle and falsity due to not having a choice but being lonely, due to a lack of community (community being extended family or neighbours of all ages 70+ and babies) there are many false communities of only young people, or lgbtqia+) they are not real communities who support and learn from one another because they are too monogamous.
