I work at a retail store. We're literally not allowed to tell you we're about to close or that we are closed. If an employee is following you around a store at night asking if you need help, assume they're either already closed or trying to close lol

The warranty one is called build in obsolescence. Essentially the product has been made to break in a certain amount of time so it forces you to buy a new one. Apple has been caught doing this to an extreme amount even installing (illegal in some countries) software that slows your hardware down or causes it to damage.

I work as a paramedic. I was told to ignore certain questions because I got too friendly with a war vet tourist who shattered his femur and answered some questions relating to the job. I was honest with him and told him that it shows you some of the worst parts of humanity. I didn't recommend him the job if he didn't think he could handle holding someone's amputated penis and keep a poker face. I don't know where he is now or if he's a paramedic now, but he seemed like he could stomach the job if he wished to see combative people daily.

if a machine is rated for ten years, but only warranties for two; the first number was only there to get your money.

I used to work at a greenhouse/nursery. Well dumb ole 19 year old got talked to because im not supposed to talk about the downsides of specific plants. Now i get it. But the amount of people who want a crabapple tree or a willow are not prepared for how much they have to clean up after them. Both drop seeds like crazy. Many apples or crabapples have to be pruned or they cross branches. And no you do not NEED to buy fertilizer or mulch with your tree. I got talked to for not pushing fertilizer. Essentially, they have a business to maintain. The plants were actually great. But the company pressed me to push more products than necessary.

There are no "fresher" cakes at the store bakery. They're baked in batches at a central bakery and shipped all over the country frozen.

My ex was a pharmacist. If it was cheaper to not use insurance for medication they were bound not to say something and use the insurance instead.

the warranty one is actually really interesting because it's not so much "the product will fail after 2 years" it's that 2 years is the point that an acceptable amount of things make it past. they can't guarantee that your fridge will last 5 years, but they know that unless something goes wrong at a plant 99% of their fridges will make it at least 5 years so theh can charge you 1/100th the price of a new one for warranty (or more accurately 1/10th the cost) and they're mathematically guaranteed to be fine.

As a deli worker at a boars head affiliated deli were not allowed to use the term "processed meats and/or cheeses" when talking out what we cut and to refure to them as "deli meats" or cold cuts to the point where it doesnt even have the words on their packaging.

I worked in a seafood department and the craziest thing was that we would”swap” ingredients when we ran out of one and wouldn’t change the lable. So you could have a stuffed shrimp and in the lable it could be lemon pepper but in reality it could be old bay, Cajun, anything. There were multiple times ,for older couples especially, I would straight up deny a customer from buying from anything if they said peanut, a specific type of seafood allergy, or an ingredient allergy because there was no way for me to tell

When i was a meat cutter corporate decided to bring in utility grade meat, the low prices draw customers.
When customers said "i never heard of utility what is that?" I simply explained it is the lowest quality marketable for human consumption just one grade above dog food.
My mentor was proud of me and i was never disciplined in any way.
After researching i had to apologize to those customers and inform them it was actually dog food grade and anything lower would not be suitable for canines.

I worked at a store that told me that I can't tell the person im selling to what product is better quality. I had to try and sell them the most expensive version of the product. Which alot of the times actually would have been the lower quality version. I ignored that and just told them the truth every time

I work at a hotel, I've found both bed bugs and cockroaches in 2 seperate rooms. People were staying in the rooms next to those ones as they were being treated for bugs lmao. I can confidently say there were no bugs after the exterminators came, but yeah man

I’m a hostess, I can’t tell people no, no matter how much I wanna lol, “oh you’d like to move to this identical table that is exactly like the one I wanted to sit you at but is in a different waitresses section so it’s wildly inconvenient for a variety of reasons well of course ma’am right this way :D”
