Iām still upset we didnāt get Godwyn as a boss or something in the dlc. That should have been a big thing- they built up to it for so long!

I definitely feel like they have something bigger planned for Godwyn if Elden Ring ever gets a sequel or any type of continuation.
His character, death and āafterlifeā are such a core part of the narrative and themes of Elden ring that I almost feel like the story wonāt be complete if we donāt confront him or an aspect of him in some way (yes I know that he technically lives on as the mending rune that is used to get the age of the duskborn ending but I donāt think anyone is truly satisfied with that conclusion to his story, especially with his close ties to Miquella who was the main antagonist of the dlc and is also at the thematic core of Elden Ringās story).
Godwynās birth signified the beginning of the golden order, his glorious and virtuous character was symbolic of the best of the golden order in itās prime days, his death signified the end of the golden order, and his hideous twisted ālifeā after death is symbolic of the current state of the order and the lands between as a whole.
So him again being reborn as the mending rune to repair the elden ring (his mother) to usher in a new age for the golden order in which death is not feared is fitting, but part of me just can shake the feeling that there was (and still is) more to his story.

It really goes to show how influential Godwyn was by performing something that borders heretical and yet was still among the favored emperyeans.
Dragons were in essence a fallen empire; fallen in aspect of decline after their God's abandonment yet still powerful in military might.
Off note: it's likely that their god was god of storms which would put them as allies of the storm veil castle. If so this would give additional cause to war with the Golden Order.
Ultimately this was what best displayed Godwyn's might as he was the emperyean who led in the war against dragon's, defeated them in their assault, and final befriending them and thus forming an alliance. This act should've been seen as heretical since Godwyn was merging the houses of gold with another theocracy, but his unification was flawless in the symbolic golden lightening.
By doing so Godwyn's house would reign political strongest as evident by capital soldiers use of the magic, and by his diplomatic relations evident by Marika's hound stationed in Farum Azula. It's likely this is why Caria was also granted similar courtesy, but by doing so Godwyn would allow existence of rival political emperyean houses being Ranni of Caria (and likely gods most favored) & Miquella of unalloyed who's raw influence could overtake.
The real questions now are:
Was the Tranished transportation to Farum Azula the feigned attempt to stop Tarnished in name of their fallen lord?
And with the dark resurrection of Godwyn the Duskborn lord, would the draconian empire follow the knights into the deathless pursuit or would they stand opposed to his deathless ascension?

I felt like in a way we did indeed fight Godwyn the death knights definitely showed us a glimpse of his moveset.
