Well, when you pick Shifter as your race, you choose one of their Shifting options. There are 4 total but my pick is Wildhunt, because when you shift into Wildhunt using a bonus action, you gain advantage on Wisdom checks. Not only that, creatures within 30ft of you can't attack with advantage against you unless you're incapacitated. This means you Reckless Attack to your heart's content and you can't be hit with advantage back. Also since fights on average last only 3 rounds aka 18 seconds, you can use the rest of your time shifted to look for clues like tracks for a baddie that got away or any other Wisdom Check you you might need to make.

If you play Path of the Beast and talk your DM into letting you rage and shift as the same bonus action, this get really fun :D

If you do it with the path of totem, and choose the bear totem you get resistance to all damage other than psychic
