Noticed this cup at PAP Awards 2024? It was used in the “yam seng” toast during PAP’s tribute to party chief Lee Hsien Loong on Nov 23 as part of the party’s 70th anniversary celebrations. It’s a nod to Senior Minister’s famous “magic cup” that he used when he delivered speeches. He was often seen taking a sip from it, before “magically” switching to speak in another language.

Senior Minister Lee is expected to step down from the ruling party’s top post of secretary-general, setting the stage for Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to become party leader at the Central Executive Committee’s next meeting. SM Lee handed over the premiership to Mr Wong in May 2024.

All eyes are on the PAP this weekend as it gathers to renew its top decision-making body, paving the way for PM Wong to become party chief ahead of Singapore’s next general election. READ MORE: str.sg/y8Sv
