Psst I have been hiding roller coaster dementia since 2 years after my undiagnosed MS and cold clotting (TIAs everywhere) were joined by Lyme Disease. I started out with a high IQ. I have been successfully treated and can learn judgmental and mechanical things after 38 years of faking it and relying on old memories. Good thing I read and tried everything I could before the Lyme or I would have been institutionalized by age 32 and my kids with dyslexia, congenital Lyme, dyscriptia would have been labeled retarded and subjected to foster care one with ADHD and Asbergers and the other with explosive anger ( from extreme colic frim birth to age 4 mos when an odd formula finally allowed him to ear and sleep. Relatives who already had kids and grandkids were afraid of this tiny screaming baby in pain.) Both of them are great now and I may yet meet greatgrandchildren.π€
All my Dad's siblings got vascular dementia in their 80's despite being physically fit and very active at that age

It took many years for my mum in law to be diagnosed. I looked after her for 7 years and it was the children that were hesitant to have her diagnosed because I am sure that they did not want to embarrass her. I eventually convinced them to have the scans and get her on medication simply because she was living hourly with anxiety. Without a diagnosis one can't access the correct medication. No medication, particularly in the late stages can lead to disaster, violence and death. Old people are strong and can deliver a powerful punch, scratch or bite ... something that I had to deal with...but thankfully I could get her the treatment she needed. Undiagnosed dementia is an accident waiting to happen.
