I have a decent amount of ex-amish friends from Ohio. It's important to note that there's many different communities with different leaders setting completely different rules. While these rules may all be true for one comminuty, it's not garunteed to be universal.

They live 20 minutes away from me in indiana lol. They are the most fascinating people Iāve ever met. Theyāve gone through so much in history. They were formed through the anabaptists I think. They still speak their old old old german dialect, make everything, work hard and live like itās 1899. Seriously. They ride a horse and buggy theyāre just fascinating

To add to there badassery, there is an Amish live in northern Maine, we had a record breaking cold streak, it was the highest number of consecutive days that were -70Ā°c, it was around a week long. They went about their stuff like it was June in the Bahamas..

I drive over an hour to shop at Amish farmer's markets/grocery stores. Their meats, cheeses, and produce are the best.

I loved near an Amish community in Oklahoma... They are on the most part good peaceful people.. They are hard working and cook so so well

Well in IL we have a lg Amish community near me & they do shop at stores. I wked at Kmart for yrs & they would come in. They bought a ton of stuff. The leader of the community would have a check to pay for all of the families. But, if course they didnāt have any IDās.
They also have a restaurant, grocery, cabinet & furniture stores (of course w/out electricity). Plus, their quilts are stunning. They even sell grain (we have horses). We all have been going to their community for yrs. Some1 told me they were āmodern Amishā. But, this might be a Midwest thing. š¤·āā

There are ton of Amish here in Maryland. Mostly southern counties (St Mary's, Calvert) and a ton of Amish markets

The Amish have also a history of violence and abuse towards their own people. Some men are even polygamous and treat their spouses like trophies.
