Some of the contributors to Leaky Gut include chemicals in our environment and food, stress, and chronic use of certain medications all of which can disrupt the delicate balance of our gut microbiome.

The disruption of the gut lining leads to a porous gut-blood-barrier which leads to food particles and other toxins crossing into the blood triggering the immune system. This can present in a variety of tissues as your immune system mistakenly identifies normal tissue as being pathogenic. Many autoimmune patients also have Leaky Gut.
