Our biology, psychology, negative events, disregulated nervous system and social environment all contribute to our mental health. It isn't just one thing.

A lot of the time, "mental illness" is just an accute awareness of real problems that others ignore. Those that don't want the problems fixed, often just sluff off the concerns of those that do as "mental illness".

Nature and nurture my friend, always nature and nurture. You need to research the biopsychosocial model.

Depression + anxiety exist because mankind has separated from truth, reality and what IS & created another. We have fallen for the illusions & distractions presented to us. Itโ€™s very sad indeed.

This lie is constantly perpetuated to this day. And unfortunately, the pharmaceutical โ€œsolutionsโ€ that are meant to help alleviate mental suffering often tend to have devastating outcomes: increased suicidality, violence towards others, a whole host of physical symptoms, etc.
Creative expression, selfless acts, joyful movement, time in nature, gardening, learning new skills, etc all tend to be free/low cost solutions that have actual benefits.

This "chemical imbalance" i have is severe, i even had an acute episode of major psychosis when talking to a psychiatrist; i asked them if they would agree to anti-psychotic medication for themselves because i could no longer be bothered to listen to the narcissistic wind from between their cheeks. ๐Ÿ˜‚

There is no way of scientifically measuring what a baseline chemistry is because everyone is different. However, there is overwhelming evidence that concludes that specific chemicals in the body affect mood and energy. There is overwhelming evidence that shows that specific abnormalities in brain function, based upon the evidence of specific behaviors that has decades of conclusive studies that show that, although each personality is different, our behaviors all fit into patterns that mimic one another. There is an encyclopedia of biological dysfunctions that showed that certain medications relieved the symptoms.
That being said, I do encourage people to try and find an alternative treatment for various psychological disorders however, some are just too grave and too dangerous to let go untreated by a professional doctor.
It is true that big pharma creates excuses every day to take some kind of medication for anything and everything. Many of the medications create side effects that require more medication.
If we lived in a healthy and balanced world, medication would be obsolete. We would have diets specifically tailored to our ailments with guaranteed results.
Unfortunately, we live in a toxic cesspool full of synthetic chemicals that have altered our natural development and have left many of us with documentable chemical imbalances.
You are absolutely right. Just because a doctor prescribed it to you, it doesn't mean that you are taking the right course of action. Try changing your lifestyle, surroundings, social circle, diet, even your location first. If the situation becomes desperate or if you are feeling overwhelmed by everything, all of the time, get help. Don't suffer needlessly because of the stigma attached to psych meds.

I read material that stated it way the gray matter of the brain and the fluids of the brain interact then react to trauma. I also read a review from the 1960's that said most mental patient do ok until an external factor interrupt and traumatize their patients by forces of controls.
