Sonic was so gassed after the famous Chaos Control in SA2 because he did it with a fake emerald. Even Shadow was openly astonished upon finding out about it. My interpretation is that abilities like the Boost and whatnot that are supernatural even by the standards of what Sonic can physically do are themselves the result of using Chaos power. He just tends to use it more as an extension of his physical actions rather than as an alternative to them.

Sonic harnesses the emeralds which transforms him into Super Sonic, which you can say is using chaos powers. The other reason with SA2 is that Sonic used chaos control with a fake emerald created by Tails which is a lot weaker than a real emerald and that Sonic was lucky to pull it off, that's why he was struggling afterwards.

I think the reason is two-fold. They want to make sure Sonic and Shadow are distinct with their powers and abilities (aside from being really fast) and also because Sonic, as a character, probably likes relying on his own abilities, especially when it comes to traversing the world. He loves going fast, and doesn't want to cheat.

I think the explanation of him just preferring not to use them is the most accurate interpretation of it. He's perfectly capable of it, just look at the shit he pulls in Frontiers - the Cyloop on Knight is absolutely a jacked up Chaos Spear.
But really, outside of that, he never really sees it as necessary and just has a preference to what he does. Plus, he probably thinks Shadow would get mad at him for ripping him off lmao

Shadow has claimed heâs the only one who can fully harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds, and heâs better with Chaos Control than Silver is (by Silverâs own admission), so it seems like there are different magnitudes to it. Sonic was probably reeling from using a fake Emerald in SA2, but weâve also never seen him single-handedly teleport an entire comet the way Shadow did at the end of Shadow the Hedgehog (2005).
Sonic can use it, but itâs never been shown to be his strong suit, and it doesnât fit his natural vibe the way it does for Shadow.

I believe it's a very exhausting technique like you pointed at with the Sonic adventure 2 event. Shadow can do it, but even he gets exhausted if he spams it.
My other theory is Sonic doesn't want to constantly rely on the power of the emeralds. It may cause a slight form of necessity or power hungry addiction to form like all others who tend to come across the emeralds.
Examples: Eggman, the echnida tribe, black doom, Solaris/Mephiles, Chaos.
The emeralds are called Chaos emeralds for a reason. Although they can be used for good, they most definitely can corrupt the user and be used for evil. Which leads to the reason why Sonic and Shadow tend to scatter the emeralds after using their super forms.

Simple answer: he doesnât need/want to. Any time heâs ever conceivably needed it (outside of the times where he uses it in the games that these videos mention.) heâs already in super form.
Itâs implied that his speed and things like the âSonic Windâ attack are all manifestations of using Chaos energy and that Sonic is kind of a prodigy with it, Shadow says at one point in SA2s final battle that Sonic is the true ultimate life form iirc.
But Sonic also isnât a living chaos energy battery like Shadow is. Shadow was created to use it, Sonic wasnât. So while he is prodigious with it, maybe it does drain him.
Ultimately I can say from a gameplay perspective, having played a couple of the âboostâ games and also Shadow the Hedgehog, itâs pretty boring gameplay to just hit a speed button and win the stage.

I like to think it is because of his fighting style, shadow was created to harness the power of the chaos emeralds, he also developpes a lot of chaos powers/techniques and is probably immune as well, sonic however like to relie on himself, he doesn't even keep the emeralds for other upcoming treats excepted ( Sonic unleashed ), that's why i think he let them go !

I think the first reason is more plausible, because he wasn't worn out in 06 from using Chaos Control with Shadow and Silver, and we also know that Sonic grows stronger every passing moment. In a way he has a sort of "Zenkai Boost" like Saiyans, and his body adapts and grows stronger over time. That's why in Sonic Generations, Sonic was able to beat Perfect Chaos without needing Super Sonic (granted we don't know for sure if canonically he didn't use the couple of Emeralds he already had to amp himself up a bit, like that one time in Sonic-X, but it's still a huge gap between that and Super Sonic).
Point is, by now his body should be able to handle it. But it's probably more accurate that he just doesn't need it and doesn't want to rely on it. He's fast enough on his own, he doesn't need to teleport. But he'd surely resort to using it if he really needed to, like say if he had no way to get out of a dangerous situation aside from teleporting out, or if he really needed to get somewhere in an instant to stop some dangerous weapon from firing or something, then surely he'd drop his ego and use Chaos Control.
Also let's not forget that in SA2 and its Sonic-X adaptation, the emerald Sonic used for Chaos Control was a fake. Shadow didn't even think it was possible for Sonic to induce Chaos Control with a fake emerald. That has to be why he was so worn out. The fake emerald had the same properties and wavelengths, but it was intended to be an "Anti Chaos Emerald" in order to disrupt the other 6 and deactivate the Ark's weapon. And I know Sonic-X isn't canon to the games, but let's remember that Sonic felt uneasy and almost sick when he was surrounded by fake Chaos Emeralds, and once his anger got out of hand, the fake emeralds turned him into Dark Super Sonic. So clearly, Sonic using a fake emerald was the reason it took everything he had to pull it off, but in 06 with real emeralds he was fine.

Option 3: Sega just forgot he could use it.
