I can agree with this as after mum's surgery, she experienced delirium and so did the hospital staff. Now she has dementia.

This is what my Father in law experienced after repairing his broken hip. It took a couple months to see him start to get back to himself...his Dementia self.

First question my mother's neurologist asked me was "How many times has your mum been unconscious in her life, including anesthesia?" There you have it.

I read the biggest factor is
having 2 copies of APOE4 mutation, being a woman, having high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, not exercising.

This happened to my husband after back surgery. He got a little better but his short term memory was affected.

I agree with this premise. My wife already had some cognitive decline but after her knee replacement she did not who I was. Also while in the hospital for after a fall, their concern was for broken femur surgery recovery and not for the Alzheimer’s piece. Although they knew of the problem, it was essentially the family’s responsibility to make certain that that was considered.❤

That happened to my mother in law she broke her hip after the surgery her dementia got much worse she’s hallucinating she has delirium symptoms. She already had a bad dementia before the surgery but now it got much much worse to the point that she’s going into hospice in a couple of days. She was still eating a little bit drinking a little bit, but she lost the ability of walking, doing anything for herself is very very sad

I don't know if i experienced delirium, i am pretty young, but i do always wake up from surgery VERY disoriented. I have cried, wet myself, felt like the world was spinning, i always feel horrible when i wake up. Why don't they just let people sleep after surgery??? That's all i ever want

What is the best approach if you need surgery or a procedure But can you refuse general anesthesia

I like the feeling waking up that way. I slept so hard, after working long hours, it made me feel like a drunk sailor waking up on the wrong ship.

I asked the Dr about this after my husband had heart surgery.
They said it was pump head and that it may or may not go away. Coincidence or not, it seemed that that was when my husbands cognitive problems started.

What about colonoscopy? Does that count as a delirium cause? I swear, after my Dad's colonoscopy at age 60, thats when everything started going dowhill fast
