The WJ Grand Cherokee had this problem in the drivers door. It wasnt an issu of the insulation cracking, it was the length of harness wire was a bit short and the wires eventually come apart. I had to rewire 7 wires to add 2" for allowance to open door with windows and locks being affected negatively

I own a 1996 suburban and i just had my ignition harness changed out because it was throwing a transmission solenoid code..the trans shop actually replaced it for me without screwing me over..

Found same problem in 2006 & 2007 Dodge Ram. The actual metal wire was very stiff. I believe they cut costs by using less copper in the wire. I found the aftermarket replacement door harness was much more flexible.
