Legitimate form of directions in Georgia. "Turn left at the big cotton field"

"No, the other big cotton field"

If you've ever lived down south where you grew up there every turn has the story I'm making a left where Billy's mama hit her ex-boyfriend for drinking too much whiskey you know right past that rocking chair that sat in the field for 30 years

Lol. It's ok, they have GPS Trackers & are still one of the Best Agencies in the US. Not to mention, all officers in Pursuit are processing/relaying more info in senconds than most do all day. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Formal FTO here. Easy game to play with your Trainee. It"s called "Where's Waldo". Give Trainee a location and let him drive you to that location. From day one a Trainee should be watching street signs, so they always know their location. If they don't know their location, then they need to get out of patrol unit and either check a street sign or knock on a door. Sounds crazy, but works...

Cop: Suspect turned left on "This Here Road."

Dispatch: Are you sure it wasn't "That There Road?"

Cop: "This Here Road" is paved, "That There Road" ain't.

Our dept's training drilled it into our heads to always know your exact location at every second, as your life can depend on it. A common thing our FTOs would do (when safe) is yell STOP! to the trainee at a random spot, away from any intersection, tell the trainee "Here's the situ. We're taking heavy gunfire, our unit's been disabled", then give the trainee the mic tell them to call in our location. Most end up stuttering "I don't know where we are". It hits hard and that's the last time they get caught not knowing.

I watched this pursuit last night. When he said this, I thought he might have had AVL and was basically saying, "I didn't see a sign, but you can see the road I'm on!" Did something like this once. As we arrived on-scene, I went completely blank. Nothing. Couldn't even remember what the call was for. I just picked up the mike and said, "Rescue 2... ah, we're here." The rest of that night and rotation, my supervisor was pissed at me because all the other units were saying this when they arrived on-scene. LOL. The Company had to threaten us with being suspended to bring it to an end.

"This road right here" is common in the south. I just heard an ASP trooper say the same thing. πŸ˜…

That was hilarious when first seen. Almost as funny each time watched.

I used to tell them, "Bang, I've been shot, where are we at?" If they couldn't tell me, I'd make them get out of the patrol car and walk to the closest intersection and come back and tell me! Really got them to study their maps and watch street signs as we were patrolling.

When I saw the full video I caught that. I thought what the hell is going on. He got the guy in the end and that's all that counts. They should rename the road This Road Right Here.
