please offer them more space than just the cage shown. even if it is only a sleep cage, they hardly have enough room to spread their wings or turn around without bumping into the sides and/or each other. they would benefit greatly from more room and more stimulation from toys of different types and textures.
i understand these things can take a while to acquire. here are some more suggestions as i wish the best for you and your adorable little feathered friends!
- different perches with texture, as dowel perches (like the type in this setup) can cause sores on their little feet. it can also help them scratch themselves and clean off any residue left over by water or food!
- foraging toys are great for stimulation and encouraging self play/exploration and a great way to introduce some new treats!
- toys with wood on them are great for keeping their beaks busy (and busy beaks are happy beaks) and help with boredom. boredom can lead to feather plucking or other forms of self mutilation, including mutilation to their feathered buddies in the form of feather plucking.
- cuttlebone for maintaining their beak health
- add some variety to their diet. the "perfect" diet for any bird varies from person to person, but offering seeds, pellets, fresh fruits and veggies, sprouts, legumes, and many other things!
- there are plenty of tutorials on how to make bird safe toys from common items you may have at home, just make sure to keep an eye on them and always make sure that they are playing safely :)
i'm so happy to see that you love your birds. giving them the things that they need to live long, healthy lives will guarantee that you are loved by them in return for many years to come! make sure you do lots of research, there is an abundance of information for free all over youtube and the internet. i wish you and your budgies the best of health and luck!
also - do you mind checking on your little yellow friend? it looks like he may just be ready to release some droppings, but he seems a bit oddly unresponsive from what you'd expect to see from a budgie.
