From this standpoint, i suggest to have 2 police officers at all times in the boat one will man the boat for the waves and the other to iniate the rescue. As you can see here the police is almost struggling but he definitely did his job right to the best of his abilities.

Here is the Bal Harbour PD boat again. Still ill equipped to safely perform a rescue. The vessel should be manned by 2 officers. A portable ladder should be used for the swimmer to climb into the boat. Tethering the ski to the boat creates a potential crush hazard by trapping the ski operator or his rider by a wave washing the ski against the boat. The Bal Harbour PD should take some type of In—Water Rescue Training from the USCG.

So many people assume the worst, attacking this man, but they miss the obvious clues in front of them. This man's Jet Ski stalled in the inlet and he can't get it restarted, probably from a big wave.
The reason his girlfriend or wife jumped was she was getting seasick because they’re bopping up and down while they’re not moving. The boy probably jumped in the water to make it easer for his mom to jump over.
The officer has already thrown the tow rope, so either the officer is going to wait u their child is safe on the ski with his father, or after he gets on the boat with his mother. Then he is going to tow them to a beach in calm water.

As a boater for 23 years, and owner of a dozen waverunners, I have to ask who in the hell keeps renting these out to these inexperienced nutjobs. I have seen more destruction and injuries on my lake, all at the hands of renters. Go in, watch a 30 minute video, then off to the races on a machine that is capable of 60 mph.
