Hi, ladies and gentlemen, subscribers or viewers!
This message will be about me talking to you, people, as you already done your part big time.
First of all, let's start with me thanking you for your huge support and great messages, I never expected to receive.
You guys were amazing, you got me feel so good with all your messages, I really appreciate all your nice words and all your time you put in writing me!
It's really nice to see people enjoy history as much as I do and love pure materials about pure tactics and events beyond the political aspect. I always believed history is beautiful since you can see how people react in certain situations, you can find heroes on all sides and you can learn useful things in life from that, beside the great stories she tends to produce.
I must admit, there are few things who gets my attention more than history and, especially, WW2.
I must tell you, I was surprised a bit about this huge attention my channel got, since I uploaded the videos more because of chance, than the intention to start a channel about WW2.
Being a child in Romania, WW2 was a huge theme, lots of legends, myths and lots of drama you heard about the event. Then, of course, being part of the Warsaw Pact, with the economy hitting rock bottom, it was very rare to own a TV with colors. It was also very rare to have programs about history, like you had in the west, since we got few channels and no channels, beside music and a state channel about culture, who took niches like history into account.
So, when I had one in colors and I could watch TV from cable with US channels (after 1996 up to 2000 the economy started to recover a bit and we were more democratic) I was wonder struck by Discovery, History, Nat Geo etc.
It was so fun back then to watch them.
And I must tell you these Battlefield series were my favorites, I hardly missed an episode. Raw footage, great narrative, good music, sticking to tactics got me(I know now you could point mistakes, being outdated, but for me this will still be a milestone in TV documentaries). Also, this love for history and TV documentaries introduced me to the English language, and made this moment possible. I understand much more about this language than it will have been possible by just learning her from books.
Time passed and since then I managed to get all the seasons and I had them on my old computer. But, as computers need maintenance and being replaced, I needed to store them somewhere to be preserved.
So I got the idea of putting them on Youtube, since they were no more on TV, there were nowhere to be found and people like me will be so happy to see them.
Basically this is why all started. I never wanted to make money or to get attention, I never thought that I will get so many millions views, it happened!
Now since there were some views, I uploaded the rest of what I could find in my library about WW2.
I was even thinking about uploading Napoleon series from Viasat, but time did not allowed me to translate them from French to English, so you could understood, to thank you for your appreciation(If you can get them, I really recommend you to do.).
Some of you wrote me about the videos getting reported, obstructed in some countries, or being taken down. I must tell you I tried to get these problems solved, but since I wrote emails to the companies who claimed rights, to Youtube, nobody bothered to answer the mails so I made little to no progress at all, beside some small victories over copyright in the early days when Youtube was not so strict.
Now, as you all see, my channel is a bit dead, no new uploads for a long time, and needing something to reach you to share my thoughts with you, to tell you what I feel about your messages, I got another idea. With this in mind I uploaded this.
Itâs a raw video from the top of a hill in my hometown (Called CetÄĹŁeaua âThe Fortressâ in Romanian), while I was in vacation with my lovely girlfriend there. You will hear her asking me in Romanian about taking wine with us in our next trip.- [For those passionate about languages this are the subtitles:SÄ luÄm niĹte pahare din alea cu picior, Ĺi luÄm Ĺi vin când mergem data viitoare. Ce zici?- Let us take some long footed glasses, and we will take wine the next time we will go. What you say?].
I chose this video because it brings us closer, you can see my home region of Maramuresh my town in the valley, the mountains: Pietrosu(First one from the start, meaningâThe Rockyâ) and ŢibleĹ(the last one, reaching out of the hills, having a more complicated ethimology with no meaning now, but âŢiâ it was given to sharps things in Romanian from âascuĹŁitâ, so it means âSomething Sharpâ).
I let the video raw, because you can hear the wind blowing, the birds chanting.
Now, my home town is in Maramuresh, North-West of Romania.
We are a depression inside Carpathians, cut by Tisa River, much like California(Half now is Ukraine, half is Romania). We are famous for our devilish strong aromatic plum brandy called âHorincÄâ( makes drinking vodka a childâs play, for real), for our landscapes, music, wood working, our homes and churches who maintained the VI century looks, Dacian, Roman and Medieval influences) , for our nice cloths and traditions, for our love of knifes and for our greatest achievement, founding of Moldova(by the way, my girlfriend is from that region) Principality and beating back the mongols(we always brag about it).
So, with all this being said, I wish you all a good life and all you can dream about to come true!
P.S. My name is Vasile(from Greek Basileus, very common in Romanian) and I/iuga, as in âignite, youâ, not Luga, an old family name of my region, from the Romanian âiugÄrâ-Roman âjugerumâ, owner of oxen who can plow, first attested in the Hungarian Crown Papers as the name of the Lord of Maramuresh Voivodship, older brother of Bogdan I of Moldova and Maramuresh.
