It physically hurt to see the beginning with forcing the cork on, and the clarinet being held by the right hand holding firmly around the upper joint which could bend keys if not careful (never had it happen but I remember being told when in beginning band years ago). At least no clarinets were harmed in the making of this video :)
Back when I started clarinet (both a while back yet not too long ago <10 years) I told my cousin the cork grease was lip balm. When she tried to take it from me to put it on and I didn't let her as I told her it was cork grease. She didn't believe me until I put it on my clarinet 🤣

fun fact about cork grease from my band director dad: you're supposed to rub it in (i didn't know before, but he told me, so i'm sharing this knowledge with the masses)

Why is this so true though. I have a friend who plays clarinet, and I play the trombone. So, basically I saw the cork grease in her band locker and thought it was chapstick. I took it and almost put it on until she stopped me. 😂

I got a crappy alto saxophone on amazon cause I wanted to try playing a woodwind and thought saxophone would be cool, it came with a cork grease that looks like that except its literally just a white stick with no label. I had a sleepover one time and my friends all used it as chapstick while I was using the bathroom...

I’ve used it as chapstick before and all of my friends were like, “No, don’t do it!!” But it actually wasn’t half bad. It’s not like it toxic or anything either, so it doesn’t sting or burn.

I’m gonna admit that at All-District last year i HAD to use cork grease as a VERY last resort to chapstick. No one around me had any and my lips were literally so dry that i couldn’t play anymore so i used cork grease for our concert, and then learned to always have chapstick on hand😭

When my grandparents got me my first saxophone I was not in band yet, the cork grease had no label soooo I used it as chapstick because I thought it was to prepare your lips for playing..
