Reminds me that back in my school days I'd somehow picked up that uisce beatha literally meant holy water. I had Gaeilgor friends growing up and I'm willing to bet it was one of them messing. Well, we were all sitting in a circle in class and we were meant to say as many words about church and Christmas as we could remember as Gaeilge, I said uisce beatha and was pulled out of the classroom by my ear by the priest who was visiting at the time. When I was able to convince him and my teacher I'd really thought it meant holy water the priest said "well, you were tricked." I was marched back inside, my classmates were told it was a misunderstanding and my teacher could not keep a straight face. Asked my granddad what it really meant when I was next on the phone with him and obviously he found the whole thing hilarious.

Irish making the poetry in the language work in their favor. Water of life is quite the euphemism ๐
