I'm sorry, but the first half of this is misleading. In my state, the default energy supplier is often more expensive than several of the renewable energy options. They aren't the LOWEST priced option, but they are often lower than the default rate, so you can absolutely save money by switching to a renewable energy supplier.
Secondly, by purchasing from that supplier you are doing two things:
1. Creating a demand for RECs, which are bought and sold in the renewable energy industry to help fund more renewable energy projects.
2. Signaling to businesses/government that you want the world to move in the direction of renewable energy (voting with your dollar)
The last half of the video is good advice.
