I'm hoping to become a teacher after graduating. One of my formative memories was a month long project in primary school where they pretended an alien had intercepted our lesson with a distress signal. They had a sock puppet alien in an alluminium foil room video feed pop up mid-lesson, supposedly having crash landed somewhere nearby. I was incredibly hooked. We taught him world history, and evolution, and english literature, and food chains, and helped calculate how he could get back home. After each step we got another video feed of him thanking us and being fascinated. I still think about what an impact that had on me, it might even be the reason I'm doing astrophysics right now! If I could give even a bit of that level of investment I had back then, I think it would do my students some good.
