The housing issue in Ireland is solvable, but there is no political will to do so, given that the main political parties are backed by interest groups that benefit from the status quo (the construction industry, land owners, big business, auctioneers etc.)
Ireland needs to put an end to foreign vulture funds swooping in to purchase up whole estates/ apartment blocks immediately, as ordinary people cannot compete and this is a massive impediment to getting on the housing ladder. Also, the rules around mortgage clearance are very strict and need to be relaxed a little.
We have also taken in more people than we can realistically handle at present.

Yep, Germany, Estonia, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg are worse. Southeast England has been worse for decades. That doesn't make it ok though. There are solutions, but governments don't like them.

Hear me out.......Build flats and apartaments. Poland and other soviet countries have it down. Alot of Irish people say they would never live in a flat because its like rats living on top of another. How is a semi detached house with 10 gardens connected together with no privacy any better than a nice new flat with a balcony.

People are crazy....property in Ireland is still pretty cheap, but the problems are the low wages, the low quality of medicine, the Low number of good jobs and not enough well skilled migrants.
