To crop a video inside a text or shape, you just need to follow this quick 4-step-process:

First, place a video on "track 1" in the timeline.

Then, place a shape or text on "track 2".

The third thing you have to do, once you have these assets in place, is to go to the "Effects" window, search for "Track Matte Key" and then drag and drop it onto your video on track 1.

While having that video selected, go to the "Effect Controls" window and under "Track Matte Key", set "Matte" to "Track 2" (which in my case is named "Video 2") and make sure "Composite Using" is set to "Matte Alpha".
