If anyone ever used logic in Dragonball, that cleansing problem could be mitigated. They find out that the dragonballs need 100 years to properly recharge and use the Time Chamber to speed up the process. After 100 days, go in and retrieve them (even though the darkness would leak out into the Time Chamber, that's a problem for later).
