I found your argument silly this time. Arguing semantics "safety cannot be your priority if you play rugby" is nonsense. You can try to reduce danger as much as possible within the context of a dangerous sport. In fact, rules are made to protect players much more than to protect entertainment. Players, schemes and basically everything else will bring in the entertainment, rules are there to make it as safe as possible without denaturing the game.
Also rules shouldn't make something possible just because you don't think players will exploit it. Do I think most rugby players are butchers who would voluntarily injure another player just to win a game ? No. Do I trust every team and federation never to attempt something like that, especially in a crucial game ? Not at all.
Remember that sometimes the stakes are much bigger than "just a game". South Africa basically sacrificed their whole team by stuffing them with doping products to win their first WC because for the country, the trophy was worth much more than a few lives. Can you guarantee that no team ever will find itself in a situation where, for their country, a trophy is worth injuring someone ?

The squats themselves are not that impressive. 8 reps at a bit over double bodyweight is good, but not really a big deal. What is impressive is that he, like all top props, is able to squat (I'm guessing) around 300kg for a 1 rep max AND can still run around the pitch for 60-80 minutes every weekend.
A top prop is not a powerlifter, and doesn't come close to a top powerlifter for pure strength, but the combo of strength and aerobic endurance in dynamic gameplay is VERY impressive.
