as an italian ex ballerina, this is so real. no matter how much experience i had with these kinda stages, i always used to be so scared to dance on them because of all the momentum you get by running up to the front. i was terrified i’d fall face flat on the stage and make a fool of myself lmao

not only does it tilt the stage and make it easier for the audience to see, but it also creates a better field for the light crew. eliminating shadows on a straight stage means beaming light right ontop of the person on stage, whereas a slightly tilted one casts longer shadows that can be eliminated more easily with raised lights from the front. our old school in germany used to have a tikted stage light this and it madeit easier to look around and see the front rows.

I have learned this in stage design and crafting (play structures, and dances), the theatre varies depending on whether it is meant for a large audience or a smaller one. The shape of the theatre is important; the stage slopes slightly downward so that the audience can see it better, while the seating area is a bit flat but rises a bit. This design helps to enhance the audience's view, especially with the seating on the balcony. Additionally, the way light is reflected and how it is perceived are crucial elements in creating visual illusions. As we can see this theatre is for a big audience! Back in some early times they had theatre outside theatre didn't exist.. They had problems with many people not seeing acts or dances and had problems with drunk people so they raise their platform and slope it and of course that style worked while the seats stayed flat, and of course the classic seat slope where most theatres has seats from the stage sloping up and of course balconies which is another style that worked so there is various different stage designs.

Was in a production on a stage with a 1:24 rake, where the 'village houses' part of the scenery was designed to be hung off scaffolding.
The scaffolders putting the poles together during the get-in had cylindrical iron bars to bash the locking clips into place and every so often, one would forget about the rake, drop his bar on the stage and then have to chase it before it rolled into the orchestra pit.
Was funny the first time; by the half-dozenth it was absolutely hysterical. 😂

It’s actually on purpose!! It’s why we call directions on the stage “upstage” and “downstage” - it’s so the audience can see better!
