It is a sad realization to come to, particularly since I was raised in Western Civilization's belief in the value of liberty and the natural rights of Man, that most people have no problem whatsoever with tyranny. The average person will prefer an obviously false promise of safety over real freedom.

When I was in jail behind bars in solitary confinement, the COās couldnāt understand why I was smiling.
They couldnāt understand how I was at peace despite the guy next to me screaming all day and night.
Jail was like an escape from the system. The food sucked, sleeping on the floor sucked, and it was cold in there but I still found the experience surprisingly peaceful.
The COās seemed to have taken issue with me for being at peace in a place where Iām supposed to suffer.
Jail was like hitting the pause button on life. Life was simple inside.

I saw a microcosm of this exact behavior. As a nurse I frequently observed how subservient and groveling many if not most nurses were to the ādoctorā. They received abuse and humiliation from their āmastersā as a given. Heaven protect any nurse who took exception and at least tried to rebel. I saw the nurses turn on that person with a hatred and vehemence that was surprising.
